I’ve always found it enjoyable to learn chords by actually learning songs that I liked. I always had I hard time simply learning a chord if someone just showed me the chord or if I was reading it off of a chord chart or music notation. It has always just been easier plugging the chord into a song. Once I was able to get the chord under my fingers it was mine. In this tune Knives Out by Radiohead, I can hopefully teach you some handy chords that you can use now and in the future, and at the same time teach you a very cool song. After teaching guitar for over 10 years it has become obvious to me that students don’t practice unless they have motivation. Using a popular song that has great musical information is the perfect tool to inspire. The chords used in this song are primarily 7th chords and if you would like more information on 7th chords please check out Lesson 17: Root Position 7th Chords and Scales. The idea is to hopefully become inspired by these ideas and then try and create something of your own. Being an individual and finding your own voice is extremely important in the world of improvisational music so be patient and try your best to come up with your own ideas.
