The guitar neck can be pretty confusing, not to mention learning music theory and applying it to the guitar at the same time. In this lesson, I try to break down the concept of an E Mixolydian Scale and an E7 or E Dominant Arpeggio simply using the High E string. I feel it’s much easier mentally and visually to grasp the concept of a scale or arpeggio on one string. Mick Goodrick uses this exact concept in his book the advancing guitarist and I personally have gained a ton of information from his book. Understanding scales and arpeggios are absolutely fundamental to growing as an improvisational musician.
